Supporting education and training for the people of Jura

The Gordon Wright Trust offers bursaries to support people from the isle of Jura to undertake education and training opportunities. This includes those attending university, undertaking apprenticeships, or completing a vocational qualification. The trust also provides support for residential trips for the island’s school children.

Since its beginnings in 2001 the trust has supported more that 45 individuals undertaking courses a range of areas including: Computer science, Agriculture, Paramedic Science, Economics, Art and Social Practice, Financial Services, Games Development, Animal Care, Mechanical Apprenticeships, Law and Legal Services, Early Childhood Education, Travel and Tourism, Jewellery, Art glass design, Fitness Exercise and Health, Criminology and Sociology, Production Art and Design, Farriery Apprenticeship, and English and Creative Writing.

About the trust

The trust was set up in memory of Gordon Wright, who lived in the Isle of Jura from the early 1980s until his death in 2000, to support education and training for people from the island. This combined two great passions of Gordon’s life – education and Jura.

The trust is a small, charitable organisation (Charity number SC032205) run by a group of volunteer trustees. Current trustees:
